Turmeric Milk–The Health Drink of the Gods

Turmeric Milk

Hi, everyone! Today I’d like to post my variation on a Turmeric Milk recipe I discovered on Beetrootandbuttermilk.com! I’ve been seeing a lot of articles in the health industry touting the amazing benefits of Turmeric and finding different ways to incorporate this incredible spice into our daily lives. I’ve been a bit hesitant to try it, especially as a drink, because the idea of drinking turmeric just doesn’t seem very palatable….right? HOWEVER, I am so, so happy to announce that I put my apprehensions aside, gave this drink a go, and it is AMAZING! As the lovely blogger from Beetrootandbuttermilk.com stated in her post, this drink literally tastes like Chai tea with warm, grounding spices that are calming and soothing.

The addition of pumpkin spice seasoning, vanilla flavored coconut milk, and coconut oil make this drink creamy, smooth, “marshmallowy” in flavor and an absolute treat! You will end up craving this drink and look forward to it every single day! This is the exact opposite of “chugging it down while holding my nose because it’s healthy” type of magical elixir!

My version of the recipe is as follows:

  • 1 cup of unsweetened Vanilla Coconut Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (or more)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of fresh pumpkin spice seasoning
  • Pinch of Pink Himalayan Sea Salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 heaping teaspoon of unrefined coconut oil
  • 1-2 teaspoons of raw honey
  • Liquid Stevia to taste (I used 4 drops)
  • 1 drop of Doterra’s Clove Essential Oil

Place all of the above ingredients in a small pot and heat over the stove until boiling. Stir ingredients as the drink heats up. Pour into your mug of choice and you’re done!

The main ingredient in Turmeric called Circumin is fat soluble, which is why it’s important to add the//ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ac&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=completenat03-20&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B00CPZPYLS&asins=B00CPZPYLS&linkId=00785ada311e1918a6f6aa110ca68b99&show_border=false&link_opens_in_new_window=false&price_color=333333&title_color=0066c0&bg_color=ffffff” target=”_blank”> coconut oil into this drink to reap the full benefits.

Additionally, consuming Turmeric with black pepper increases the absorption of its properties by 2,000%, which is why it’s equally important to add that pinch of pepper!

Cinnamon is wonderful to use because it stabilizes our blood sugar, which is very important for our hormonal balance.

Pink Himalayan Salt is the best kind of salt to use in all of your recipes because it contains many nutrients and cleansing properties that are depleted in typical, processed table salt.

I only recommend using Doterra essential oils if you are planning to utilize essential oils in recipes to ingest. Doterra and Young Living are the only essential oils that have been approved for internal use, due to strict standards on how the oils are produced. I personally love diffusing Clove essential oil and taking it internally, as it contains an incredible amount of antioxidants and has amazing immune-boosting properties. ONE drop is all you need.

You’ll have something that looks like this: (the separation is due to the addition of the coconut oil)

Benefits of Turmeric:

Turmeric is a spice that is most widely used in Indian and Chinese cultures for its strong medicinal properties as an anti-inflammatory agent. Modern science has started backing up these claims. The compounds in Turmeric with medicinal properties are known as curcuminoids and curcumin is the main active ingredient in Turmeric.

Holistic medicine states that chronic, widespread inflammation in the body is at the heart of all modern diseases, including diabetes, cancer, heart disease, Alzheimers, Arthritis, and various degenerative diseases. Our modern American diets are highly acidic, which creates an imbalance within our bodies. We should be consuming enough Alkaline foods (such as leafy greens, fruit, lemon water, etc.) to counteract the acidity we take in from primarily acidic foods (meat, sauces, refined foods, dairy, etc.). When our bodies are overly acidic, widespread inflammation occurs, resulting in Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Leaky Gut symdrome, Acid Reflux, Heart Burn, and Gas. These are the beginning signs of inflammation, which will ultimately lead to more serious diseases down the road, as an acidic body has your immune system working in overdrive, which will ultimately burn out and not work as it should to prevent other illnesses, as well. The body works as a cohesive unit. When one part falters, the rest of our systems try to make up for it, but our bodies can only do so much without our help.

Turmeric increases the antioxidant capacity within our bodies, which reduces free radicals that wreak havoc on our bodies.

Turmeric has been found to prevent and treat cancer, alzheimer’s disease, and arthritis.

Studies have found that Turmeric is amazing in the treatment of depression. Various studies have found that Turmeric supplementation has had the same results as Prozac, therefore, Turmeric may be as effective as a standard antidepressant medication. Turmeric may boost the two main neurotransmitters involved in depression: serotonin and dopamine.

Turmeric may help delay aging along with illnesses related to the aging process.

Turmeric also works very well in the treatment of sore joints, minor aches, and pains due to its profound anti-inflammatory agents. This is great for when you’re sore after a hard workout or any other strenuous activity!

In order to get the most benefits out of using Turmeric, in addition to including it in your diet, it’s best to take it in supplement form where the circumin level is highest. Supplements of Turmeric and/or Circumin are very affordable, especially when you don’t buy it from Whole Foods or Vitamin Shoppe. Vitacost.com has the best prices for nutritional supplements and I currently get 99% of my vitamins there.

Vitacost is always having some form of a sale, so you get a discount on top of the already marked down sale price! It’s like the online version of Whole Foods, except it’s actually affordable. I included my referral link below so you can use it to get $10 off your order, if you’d like.

  1. I’ve tried this before! It actually was pretty good, but I added a lot more cinnamon than the recipe called for. This is definitely a great thing to drink daily or weekly, at the very least. I’m going to try this recipe soon. Thanks! 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for reading! This is my favorite recipe that I kept tweaking over time until I got it right. My husband loves it so much that he actually asks me to make it for him! And he was really hesitant to even try it at first. Please let me know what you think when you try it!

      1. Of course! Most of my friends refer to me as a “health nut,” and this recipe is right up my alley, lol. I don’t blame him for being hesitant–I was too. Glad you two enjoy it as much as I do. 😀
